~ Chapter One ~
Biography

Dear Reader,

I am an author/public speaker. I speak to educators, parents and students about the value of stories and the importance of reading. I work to inspire educators and parents to share the most valuable gift we can give our youth, the gifts of stories and reading. And I speak on Aboriginal related challenges and successes.

I am the author of many exciting books and I always have several in the making. Chapter two contains information about my published books and chapter four outlines some of my upcoming releases. I have been blessed in both my professional and personal lives. For a taste of my good fortune as a writer, click on the Haida war knife pictured above.

Like many authors, I have been a teacher and a principal. In 1974, I ran for Parliament under the leadership of Pierre Trudeau. I played junior level hockey. I collect art, antiques and books. I collect and play the Native flute. My wife Vicki is still teaching me how to love and care for our garden.

I am Métis (of mixed European and Native blood). I am one of many who grew up knowing nothing of my Métis roots. For information on this important part of my life, click on the war rattle.

For a more formal biography, click on my portrait in the top left hand corner... a painting done by Dennis Weber, Métis artist, friend and partner in my book The Secret of Your Name.

For answers to questions often asked of me, click on the happiest day of my life...my wedding picture in the lower left hand corner.

I hope you find my site informative and interesting.

We are all related...
